I think that I am one of the few females on earth that doesn’t like to get organized. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE organization. It’s the process of getting to the organized state that makes my head spin. The dreaded weekly workout plan is something that a lot of folks struggle with. In fact, I asked my Instagram followers “What do you think is the biggest issue facing women today in regards to fitness?”. The overwhelming response was “time”.
This answer made me dig deeper…
Time can be a very vague answer, so I dug deeper with them. Do you not have time to go to the gym (or wherever you workout, it could very well be at home)? Do you not have time to plan the workouts? Do you not know what to do to workout so you spend what little time you do have trying to find something to do?
The answer to my digging deeper questions were a little bit of both, but mainly the planning of the workouts but way deeper than that was following through with the workouts.
Each person has different goals
Which is great, right? Because if we all looked the same, acted the same and were the same, then, we’d be robots and we’re not robots, we’re human beings. These ladies that answered my questions said that if they knew what to do to be able to reach their goals, then they wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed with the process and they would be more likely to workout.
Let’s discuss the issue of planning workouts. Why? Because if you plan your workouts instead of just haphazardly trying to fit them in somewhere, you will inevitability be more successful at actually accomplishing said workouts.
A weekly workout plan does not need bring up issues and cause you all kinds of grief. It just doesn’t. Period. That being said, how do you plan your workouts when you have 4,785,391 things on the schedule? I’m so glad you asked!
Let’s take a look at my 4 easy steps to get you rolling.
Weekly Workout Plan Tip #1- Work WITH Your Schedule
There have been many folks that I’ve talked to that said they want to work out but keep missing their planned work out. First question I ask is “When do you schedule it?” This question is crucial because if you have to be at work early (7AM or earlier) then planning to work out before you go to work is pretty much setting yourself up for failure, especially if you’re not a morning person. I say this because if you already have to be at work early, trying to create a new habit while going completely against your schedule can set yourself up for failure.
Try this – think about your schedule and where there is a break, even if it’s a short one.
Example! what time is your lunch and how long do you have? Head to an exercise class at lunch, or take a jog around the property of your building. OR if you have to be at work early like I mentioned above, plan to go right after work to do your workout of choice.
Another Tip– break your planning down by week or even by day! Break your schedule waaaaayyyyy down and make it work for you. My schedule is absolutely insane, I have clients to train at the Box, I have virtual clients to train and keep up with, I have posts to write, affiliate relationships to nurture, and social media groups to keep up with. That’s just my job! That doesn’t even get into home life with the Hubs and my little man. There are quite literally times that I have to break my schedule down by day and not by week. I may have an overall goal for the week, but day by day I figure out how I will take care of my family, my clients, my readers, and fit in time for me to workout or go for a run. How to do this? Grab a cheap planner. One that breaks your weeks way down like the one I have from Amazon over there. There is no need to spend a fortune on a planner. You just need a piece of paper to work with your schedule.
Weekly Workout Plan Tip #2- Grab the Right Shoes
All shoes are not created equally but I recommend that whatever activity you decide to go with, that you go with a shoe that works for that activity. When I started this blog back in June of 2017, you were my inspiration. Yes, you, the girl that is reading this. My life mission has become to empower women to live the healthiest and strongest lives that they can. That said, I made it a personal mission to find companies that I could partner with that provide quality clothing as well as quality shoes.
This is where Reebok comes in. But first, let’s rewind a second. For years, I used a certain pair of running shoes for years and years. This year, I started to become dissatisfied with the quality of that brand. I gave the Reebok Harmony Road shoes a go and they are fantastic. The support is awesome and the cushion is literally out of this world. I really couldn’t believe how much cushion there was in that shoe. Can I be corny? It felt like I was running on a cloud. The Reebok Harmony Road shoes will not disappoint you for your runs OR your gym workouts!
Bottom Line? Reebok will not disappoint you in shoes.
If you need some proof that I’m not just throwing in an affiliate link, you can check out some of my other posts that have me promoting these shoes. .
Weekly Workout Plan Tip #3- Don’t Stress
Last, but most certainly not least, don’t stress about the schedule. Have fun, roll with the punches, and get excited about the fact that you’re taking charge of your health. I completely understand what it’s like to have things planned and be ready to roll out the week and execute but then you end up having to work longer hours than planned or you’re so exhausted you can’t see straight.
Or, if we’re really being honest, some days you simply don’t feel like it. I get it. Some days I don’t feel like it either and it is quite literally my job!
This is where your why and your how comes in and is why I created this checklist. This checklist is exactly what I used when I overhauled my workout schedule and I thought that you might also like it! So throw in your name and e-mail address and I’ll send it to you for free!
When it comes to your workouts, it’s more than just writing it down on a sheet of paper. It is working it into your schedule as part of your lifestyle and not just something to check off of a list.
When we’re feeling unmotivated and we don’t think that it’s worth it, take a step back and think about your whys and your hows. When you understand why you’re doing this, how you’re doing this and what you’re doing this for. It’s like the foggy glass clears and you’re all of the sudden in a new day.
Maybe you want to feel better about yourself. Perhaps you want to fix up your body image and physical appearance to further advance your career. Whatever it is, find it and figure it out. Because without a purpose, your efforts will be made in vain.
Use that little checklist that I’ll send you when you subscribe to the Fearlessly Fit ‘N Fabulous Newsletter (sent each Monday morning for some motivation to start your week!). You’ll be amazed at what you figure out about yourself.
