How many times have we heard that “a flat stomach is made in the kitchen”? I’ll be honest, before I actually knew what it meant, I was totally annoyed by the idea that abs were made in the kitchen. What does that even mean? I wanted a flat tummy and I wanted it yesterday. I mean, I am quite literally the most impatient person ever. However, something that I have learned is that anything worth having is worth working for. These crazy crash diets that are going around that are for only a few weeks may produce “immediate” results, but they are not results that you can depend on to stick around.
I recommend that you be extremely cautious about websites that claim a 24 hour cleanse by drinking a concoction of unicorn hair and olive oil. Those types of crash cleanses can cause more harm than good in regards to not only a flat stomach but your over all health! Really work towards having an over all healthy lifestyle and making good healthy food choices every single day. With this type of living, it makes it so that you do not feel like you have to do these crash cleanses or extreme diets.
So how do you get a flat stomach?
Well, to be quite honest with you, the road to a flat stomach really does start in the kitchen. However, the kitchen is not the only place that flat stomachs are made: the gym and the kitchen.
Here’s how I will lay this post out. We will talk about the two places, and how to easily utilize those two places to get you on the road to a flat stomach. I promise that these will be easy steps that you can incorporate into your daily schedule. Plus, when you make it all the way to the end, I will give you my 30 Day Ab Challenge that is in my training store for FREE.
The #1 Killer of a Flat Stomach
Guess what the number one destroyer of abs is? SUGAR. You would not BELIEVE what has added sugar in it. Things that are naturally sweet get sugar added to them! Growing up I always saw my mom read labels and she taught me to do the same. However, for the first few years out of the house, I didn’t care so much. Fast forward to when I started caring again and reading labels and I found sugar in dang near everything.
There is so much science that goes into why sugar messes up everything. It slows metabolism, messes up your sleep, turns into fat, etc. What’s crazy is that our society has an addiction to sugar and we don’t even realize it!
Game Changing Trick to avoiding Sugar
Check out what is actually in your food. Reading food labels is the one game changer that can take your ab game to the next level.
Anybody ever read a food label and come across a word (or 12 words) that looks like this? Rfalkwjfvl and you think what the heck is that? Yep, nobody knows except the scientist that made it up somewhere in the lab for nobody knows what reason. Look for ingredients you can pronounce and know what those ingredients are. Natural and Organic ingredients are the way to go. Cutting added sugar out of your diet and you will be amazed at the difference in your stomach.
When in doubt, grab the fresh stuff. Yes, it goes bad quicker but that is the point! I make a trip to the grocery store once a week because that is all the longer our produce will last. Meat is frozen as soon as it gets home unless I am cooking it that night because the preservatives on it are minimal!
Pro Tip- when you’re grocery shopping, stay to the outer edges of the store. That is where the perishable food items typically are. (Minus the bakery! 🙂 ) Fresh is always best.
Healthy Eating does not have to be boring! I’m definitely not a chef. I know my way around the kitchen a bit but to say that I am skilled is really not accurate. So, I let the experts teach me and show me how to make yummy and healthy food. The Healthy Cookbook for Two that can be grabbed on Amazon will help you think outside of the box in regards to your meals and keep things interesting!
My hubby and I started meal prepping once a week and it has really made a difference for us! We find recipes that are good warmed up and we cook everything ahead of time and then we have all of our meals for the week. It has really helped because we have healthy well balanced in the fridge ready to roll.
I have found that the easiest is prepping once a week but you have to decide and figure out what works for you! It’ll take practice and some experimenting but don’t worry, you’ll get it, sis.
Moving on to Workouts
Something that I tell my clients is that a strong core is the basis for the rest of your body. It’s scientifically proven and it’s what we’re taught as personal trainers. When I personally train my clients whether local or virtual, we always make sure that the core is part of the workout.
Girl, you’ve been to the gym for years, you know the saying of keeping your core tight. Remember that it doesn’t mean to suck in your belly and hold your breath. Zip up your abs starting at your pelvic floor and pulling your abs in towards your mid-line. You can practice at home before your workouts of keeping those abs tight and breathing! That can also be done while you’re sitting at your desk or when you’re out working with your clients.
Another word on workouts…
Also remember that there are WAY more ab workouts than crunches. Your ab muscles wrap around the side of your trunk as well and working on those obliques are a major part of having a flat tummy. Make abs part of your everyday gym routine which brings me to your freebie!
I personally have done this challenge and it is absolutely killer. One of my clients messaged me and “You need to tell everyone that if you want to feel every single muscle in your stomach and see results, you have to do this challenge.” ~Joie in Florida
So, there you have it. See for yourself! With these tips I’ve given you and with my Ab Challenge giving you some great exercises, what are you waiting for? I’ve given you the tools for amazing abs just in time for summer. Now get out there and use them!
