Pumpkins, red and orange leaves, crisp morning air, bright stars, football, school back in session and dare I say… frost? Sounds like it’s time to think about some fall fitness activities!
Recently I did a poll on my Instagram stories (before I got hacked and lost 6k followers. UGH. Hackers.) ANYWHO, I did a poll asking what they wanted to see the most on the blog. Fall fitness activities was the resounding answer!
Over the course of several weeks, I will be sprinkling in the publishing schedule fall related posts! These posts will include (but aren’t limited to) recipes, being fit for fall and the holidays, I’ll have a fall fitness challenge that will be 6 weeks in length, transitioning from summer to fall workouts, etc.
So! Let’s talk about today’s 10 fall fitness activities. These activities might make you get out of your comfort zone a little bit, but that’s honestly what this is all about.
I mean, come on, we’ve heard the ‘ol ‘fall back into fitness’ saying right? Besides the fact that it’s super ridiculous and corny… These activities are just fun things to keep you even more active than normal this fall.
Again, there is nothing life changing about this post. Just a bit of autumn fun!
Fall Fitness Activities Option #1 – Trail Running
So, you already run, right? Why not kick it up a notch for fall and do some trail running? If you’ve never done trail running, I recommend starting when it’s starting to cool off until you get used to it. Which means fall is the perfect timing!
There’s an awesome article on Runner’s Blueprint called How to Start Trail Running – 11 Steps for Beginners. Give that article a quick read before you go into trail running!
Fall Fitness Activities Option #2 – 30 Day Eating Challenge
Pick a fall month, either September or October, and get rid of sugar from your diet for 30 days.
She said what? Yeah! Give it a go. Try to cut sugar completely out of your diet for 30 days and see how your body feels. (Be sure to not substitute it with fake sweeteners! Any sweetener should be natural i.e. Stevia or fruit juice)
I’ve done this before and cut all white and processed sugar out of my diet for 30 days. Doing this included having to check labels and make sure that no dressings or anything I ate included sugar.
It was very tough at first!
But once I got the hang of it, and realized how great I felt after those 30 days, I was able to make some awesome life changes to where I now hardly eat any sugar at all.
And when I do have sugar, I don’t need much at all to be satisfied.
Once you complete your 30 days of zero sugar, take note of how you feel. I’m willing to bet that you’d be astounded with the results.
Fall Fitness Activities Option #3 – Sign Up for a Turkey Trot
While I’ve run many races before, I did my first Turkey Trot last year that benefited the United Way.
It was SO fun. The race was the morning of Thanksgiving which I was a little bit apprehensive about but I signed up anyway because my mom wanted to do it!
I’m so glad I did! Sure, it was the morning of Thanksgiving, but everyone was in such a fun mood and had great attitudes!
Lots of people dress up for running races no matter the distance, but this Turkey Trot there were people there dressed as turkeys and wearing fun turkey feathers and painted faces and all kinds of silliness.
This race was a great way to start Thanksgiving day and we then had a yummy lunch later.

Fall Fitness Activities Option #5 – Outdoor Yoga
Grab your yoga mat and go to your back yard, or heck even the beach if you’re close to it.
Lay your mat out there and relax, do some stretching and work on your yoga and mobility. In the cooler air, you’ll be amazed at how to relaxed you’ll feel and I’m willing to bet you’ll stay out there longer than you had planned.
Plus, you’ll gain some killer mobility working yoga type movements into your regimen.
Fall Fitness Activities Option #6 – Take Up Cycling to Switch up your Routine
Cycling is a great workout plus it is an excellent mix up from running or the dreaded elliptical.
Hop on your bike and start peddling. The crisp autumn air blowing in your face… Well, there’s just something about it that makes it so wonderful.
Here’s a tip, grab the hubs and you crazy kids hop on your bikes together and get to peddling. There’s so many things that you can do for a date in the fall.
Fall Fitness Activities Option #7 – Turn Your Fall Cleaning Into a Workout
Ugggggghhh I went there didn’t I? Yep, I sure did. So let’s make it a circuit. Ready?
4 Rounds for Time
- Drag one load of dirty laundry into the laundry room
- vacuum a room
- clean a toilet.
Repeat 4 times as quickly (and effectively) as you can!
You’ll get a workout in, plus your house work will get done in record time. Whoo! A double positive.
Fall Fitness Activities Option #8 –Rake Up Leaves
You can make this a workout too! Even if you don’t have leaves, check around with your neighbors that might be elderly and need some help. Tell them you’ll rake their leaves at no cost.
Girl, get out there and get after it. Time yourself and try to get it done as quickly as you can.
You will be sore. That’s pretty much guaranteed.
Fall Fitness Activities Option #9 – Outdoor Circuits in a Park
Head out to a park with your mat and do some circuits! You can actually grab a free week of equipment free workouts below!
Fall Fitness Activities Option #10 – Jog to the Coffee Shop
Whoooo girl there is nothing better than an early morning coffee in a little coffee shop downtown.
Get up a few minutes early and jog down to the coffee shop, drink you a cup of amazing cup of hot joe and then light jog it back home.
Keep in mind that this is not a training run, just a fun run to get a cup of coffee.
That really is just the tip of the iceberg on fall fitness activities
I mean…. That should give you a little bit to do over the next few weeks/months am I right?
Number 5 is a little bit near and dear to my heart because I recently have picked up yoga because my mobility is so very bad. Mobility is one of those things that take practice and when you don’t practice it, then you lose it!
I was a dancer growing up and used to be super flexible, but when I quit dancing, I didn’t work on my mobility so much and lost it. So! I’ve been incorporating yoga into my routine to really work on that mobility.
Switching up your routine and adding some of these in will make things definitely more interesting, plus it will help you enjoy the awesome fall weather.
Fall is great because the air starts cooling off in the evening and the mornings are crisp so you can get outside and enjoy the cool air and do these things.
