I saw a meme that said “It’s 97 degrees outside. Keep your Pumpkin Spice away from my margarita.” Oh my gosh. I died laughing because that is so me! While summer is my favorite season, fall and spring are awesome too. Don’t get me started on winter. I hate it. But that’s another story. Let’s talk about eating healthy this fall.
Fall = football season. There’s nothing like driving around my city on a Friday or Saturday night and seeing those bright lights lighting up the field. I have amazing memories of hanging out at the football games in high school.
Me and my gal pal back then were the two weird girls that actually understood the game and enjoyed watching.
As the weather cools off and we head into the colder months it is very easy to eat more than we should. Not only that, it’s really easy to fall into the game day food trap, ,but more on that in a minute.
If you hear nothing else from this post, hear this: don’t fall off the healthy living band wagon and tell yourself you’ll get back on track at New Year.
Healthy living and fitness is a lifestyle and believe it or not, it doesn’t have to be a lifestyle of deprivation!
Eating Healthy This Fall Trick #1 – Plan Your Meals
Planning your meals actually doesn’t have to be just a fall thing, I recommend planning your meals year round.
Reason for this is that when you plan your meals and get the ingredients to make your meals ahead of time, you are less likely to swing through a drive through on the way home.
Meal prepping really doesn’t have to be hard and in fact it can be really freeing. When you know that a good dinner is waiting just to be warmed up, you feel really good about your decisions and it gives you some encouragement that you’re on the right track!
Eating Healthy This Fall Trick #2 – Eat More Homemade Soup
This one is building off of number one actually because soup is really easy to make ahead and can be so healthy when made well!

While I know it’s easier to grab a can of soup, there are just too many preservatives for me to recommend grabbing canned soup. Plus the sodium is typically out of control!
Homemade soup is not hard at all and can be made ahead! Plus, soup is nice and cozy for the winter months.
Eating Healthy This Fall Trick #3 – Avoid Mindless Eating
Fall is football season, which means watch parties and endless amounts of game food.
As the weather cools and eventually turns off cold, we tend to spend more time inside the colder it gets; which typically means a lot of time watching television and those beloved football games.
During this season it is very easy to put some chips in a bowl and grab some salsa and sit in front of the game. Then we all of the sudden realize, half the jar of salsa is gone as well as the chips and we didn’t even know we had eaten that much!
Simply be aware of your portions. Am I saying give up game day food all together? Of course not! What I am saying is to be sure to watch your intake and what you’re intaking when.
When we zone out in front of the TV while eating, we tend to eat more because we’re not paying attention to what our stomach is saying.
I challenge you to pay attention while you eat so you don’t all of the sudden realize you have a belly ache from eating too much!
Eating Healthy This Fall Trick #4 – Drink Herbal Tea
If you follow me on Instagram, you will not only know that I love coffee, but you will know that I am working to cut back on my coffee.
In this process, I have started implementing herbal tea into my routine and it has really made a difference.
Drinking herbal tea will allow you to get your hot drink fix, but without having so much caffeine. Caffeine can be highly addicting, plus it can cause you to dehydrate more quickly!
My favorite herbal teas are Peach, Raspberry Zinger, and Sweet Dreams to drink right before bedtime.
Eating Healthy This Fall Trick #5 – Buy Food that is In Season
Something that we don’t think about much anymore is food that is in season because food is so readily available to us.
However, eating food that is in season is better for you because there typically aren’t growth hormones put on them to make them grow out of season.
Plus, eating foods that are in season will help you think outside the box on recipes and you’ll be eating well year round with all different kinds of foods!

Eating Healthy This Fall Trick #6 – Make Your Own Pumpkin Spice Lattes
I know, I know. At this point you probably think that I’ve lost my mind by telling you not to go to Starbucks and get the most anticipated drink of the year.
Used to, I would frequent the drive through just waiting to get a sip of that amazing pumpkin flavored nectar.
However, when I really started paying attention to my eating and I took my lifestyle to a different level, I ordered said drink and guess what? I didn’t like it. I could literally taste the chemicals and the loads and loads of sugar that was in the drink.
What’s a girl to do? You can make your own amazing pumpkin spice at home that is healthy.

Healthy living and fitness is just that, living.
It’s not about deprivation and doing 100 squats a day followed by a 12 mile run.
It just isn’t.
It’s about enjoying each and every moment that we are given. Will we have to say no to things that we want? Of course!
But we say no to the things that in the end will ultimately hurt our lifestyle and push us further away from our goals not closer.
It really is all in how you look at your decisions this fall. Will this decision push me closer to my goal of an overall healthy lifestyle? Or further away.
Enjoy the game day food, but in moderation. A Pumpkin Latte? You bet, but make your own so you’re not putting those harmful chemicals and toxic amounts of sugar in your body!
There are better ways and these tips will help you stay on track all fall long.
