It’s 8:00pm and the day got away from you again, and you didn’t make it to the gym. While the easiest choice would be to flop down on the couch and watch New Girl, which believe me, I totally get it; that’s the best show! However, you’ve got goals to meet!
Enter home workouts. I know, you might be thinking of your mama in the living room sweating it out in her headband to Olivia Newton John. While I love me some Olivia, that isn’t what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about good circuits that you can do either in your back yard or in your living room if you so decide.
I mean if you’re feeling really crazy, hop your little self out front and workout in front of the neighbors. 🙂

Home workouts can be just as effective as going to the gym! I’ve put together a list of easy and affordable list of necessities to have at your fingertips. Even if you have a gym membership and you just can’t make it to the gym that day, having these essentials will help you get a great workout without the gym.

Home Workout Equipment Must #1 – Mat
Have you ever tried to do abs on a hard floor and your hip and back are digging into the floor? Uh yeah. It doesn’t work, right?
Having a mat is crucial to being able to work out effectively at home. Why? However, not just any mat will do, because mats do not come in a one cushion for them all. I guess I’m a diva and I’ll own that fact because I like for my mats to be extra squishy so that way I can concentrate on what I’m doing and not having to worry about being uncomfortable.
My favorite type of mat by BalanceFrom and you can find on Amazon. It’s super thick and it has an awesome little strap that makes for good storage.
Home Workout Equipment Must #2-Kettle Bells
I absolutely love kettle bells. They can double as dumbbells and they’re really more versatile than a dumbbell is. They’re also affordable and come in a really wide range of weight.
Best practice is to grab a lighter kettle bell and a heavier kettle bell. (Maybe a 10 pound and a 20 pound). Because of the shape of the kettle bell you’ll be able to do more versatile workouts and you’ll be able to handle more weight! I love love love kettle bells and they’re awesome to have handy for those home workouts.
I recommend the Yes4All Solid Cast Iron Kettlebells. Keep in mind that not all kettle bells are created equally and I recommend making sure that you grab the cast iron because they’re more sturdy and keep better! Plus they go well with your mat.
Home Workout Equipment Must #3 – Goals & A Workout Plan
Since you’re looking at home workout equipment to be able to use on the days you can’t go to the gym, my assumption is that you have goals, or you at least have some idea of goals.
If you don’t have specific goals, before you hop into a workout plan, you need to set some goals! How else would you know if you’re successful? Even if you already have goals, might I suggest my Free 5 Day Mini Course to set fitness goals? Home Workout Equipment Bonus – Foam roller
Two words that will change the way you stretch and repair your muscles – foam roller. Take it from someone that has lived their entire life with knotted up muscles from playing sports, training, and being a stress ball; the foam roller is like candy to your muscles. Literally can’t say enough good things about it. When I was pregnant, this thing was my bestest best friend. Feel me?
Now that I’m 2 years postpartum, back up to high number of miles and now doing Crossfit as my cross training, this is like chocolate syrup to my muscles.

Home workouts can be just as effective as gym workouts if done properly! It doesn’t have to be old school home workouts, although if that’s your taste then go for it.
