(updated 2.21.2018) I think that I am one of the few females on earth that doesn't like to get organized. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE organization. It's the process of getting to the organized state that makes my head spin. The dreaded weekly workout plan is something that a lot of folks struggle with. In fact, I asked my Instagram followers “What do you think is the biggest issue facing women today in regards to fitness?”. The overwhelming response was “time”.
This answer made me dig deeper…
Time can be a very vague answer, so I dug deeper with them. Do you not have time to go to the gym (or wherever you workout, it could very well be at home)? Do you not have time to plan the workouts? Do you not know what to do to workout so you spend what little time you do have trying to find something to do?
The answer to my digging deeper questions were a little bit of both, but mainly the planning of the workouts.
Each person has different goals
Which is great, right? Because if we all looked the same, acted the same and were the same, then, we'd be robots and we're not robots, we're human beings. These ladies that answered my questions said that if they knew what to do to be able to reach their goals, then they wouldn't feel so overwhelmed with the process and they would be more likely to workout.
Let's discuss the issue of planning workouts. Why? Because if you plan your workouts instead of just haphazardly trying to fit them in somewhere, you will inevitability be more successful at actually accomplishing said workouts.
A weekly workout plan does not need bring up issues and cause you all kinds of grief. It just doesn't. Period. That being said, how do you plan your workouts when you have 4,785,391 things on the schedule? I'm so glad you asked!
Let's take a look at my 4 easy steps to get you rolling.
Work WITH Your Schedule
There have been many folks that I've talked to that said they want to work out but keep missing their planned work out. First question I ask is “When do you schedule it?” This question is crucial because if you have to be at work early (7AM or earlier) then planning to work out before you go to work is pretty much setting yourself up for failure, especially if you're not a morning person. I say this because if you already have to be at work early, trying to create a new habit while going completely against your schedule can set yourself up for failure.
Try this – think about your schedule and where there is a break, even if it's a short one.
Example! what time is your lunch and how long do you have? Head to an exercise class at lunch, or take a jog around the property of your building. OR if you have to be at work early like I mentioned above, plan to go right after work to do your workout of choice.
Another Tip– break your planning down by week or even by day! Break your schedule waaaaayyyyy down and make it work for you. My schedule is absolutely insane, I have clients to train at the Box, I have virtual clients to train and keep up with, I have posts to write, affiliate relationships to nurture, and social media groups to keep up with. That's just my job! That doesn't even get into home life with the Hubs and my little man. There are quite literally times that I have to break my schedule down by day and not by week. I may have an overall goal for the week, but day by day I figure out how I will take care of my family, my clients, my readers, and fit in time for me to workout or go for a run. How to do this? Grab a cheap planner. One that breaks your weeks way down like the one I have from Amazon over there. There is no need to spend a fortune on a planner. You just need a piece of paper to work with your schedule.
Find Something You Actually Enjoy Doing
The gym might not be everyone's forte and that's totally okay! At the same time, let's remember to get out of the thought process that the gym = 30 boring minutes on the elliptical. There are many things that you can do that are great exercise; there really is something for everyone. Click the following links to go to each official website to learn more about each one!
Martial Arts (SO many different kinds!)
The entire point is to think outside the box and to find a hobby and make it an active one! If you do decide on a gym membership and need some workout ideas, in my training store I have gym workouts that are ready for instant download! They are a full month at a time so your actual workouts are already planned for you, all you have to do is find the time to do it!
Grab the Right Shoes
All shoes are not created equally but I recommend that whatever activity you decide to go with, that you go with a shoe that works for that activity. When I started this blog back in June of 2017, you were my inspiration. Yes, you, the girl that is reading this. My life mission has become to empower women to live the healthiest and strongest lives that they can. That said, I made it a personal mission to find companies that I could partner with that provide quality clothing as well as quality shoes.
This is where Reebok comes in. If you have been around my blog for any length of time you know that I used a certain pair of running shoes for years and years. I gave the Reebok Harmony Road shoes a go and they are fantastic. The support is awesome and the cushion is literally out of this world. I really couldn't believe how much cushion there was in that shoe. Can I be corny? It felt like I was running on a cloud. The Reebok Harmony Road shoes will not disappoint you for your runs.
I also Crossfit…
There was another brand that I used for my CrossFit shoes until I found the Reebok CrossFit Nano . They are stable and absolutely perfect for those high intensity work outs that come with Crossfit. I'll be honest, I have not tried the Reebok Legacy Lifters, but I have girls at the Box that use them and absolutely love them. Back to the Nanos… The picture you see is actually my Instagram Story from this morning post WOD.
Bottom Line? Reebok will not disappoint you in shoes. They have something for everyone, no matter what activity you choose.
Last, but most certainly not least, don't stress about the schedule nor about finding the right hobby. Have fun, roll with the punches, and get excited about the fact that you're taking charge of your health. The schedule will fall into place, you will find something you enjoy doing, you will find the right shoes and I promise you that you won't regret it. So get out there, sister and take control of your life!
